Issue 6! (THIS time)

So the sixth issue finally arrives in U.S. stores this week, and in European stores next week! Hopefully you good people will think it's been worth the wait!

Here's a six-page preview for the issue; hopefully people will pick it up and enjoy it!

Thanks again for everybody who waited the extra few weeks, I really appreciate it.

Here are the two covers for the issue, the regular by me and the variant by the wonderful Rebekah Isaacs and Jordie.

All-Comic.com Interview

Here's an interview I just did about all things HPD with the lovely people over at All-Comic.com.

Issue 6

So, issue 6 is supposed to be on shelves today, but... isn't. It turns out that there's going to be a very short delay on the last issue, due to Jordie having to do some unavoidable juggling with her colouring schedule. There's nothing that could be done, and it wasn't Jordie's fault in any shape or form; it's down to several of her other artists being late on their books and that snowballed into our last issue.

Hopefully we'll see the issue arrive next week, as Jordie actually finished our issue 3 weeks ago (and it looks gorgeous), so it shouldn't be too long. Please bear with us, it's another 30-page monster and hopefully well worth the wait!

NYCC Report

So I'm back from the New York show, and man, whatta blast. It was ridiculously hectic and manic as I assumed it would be, but Artists' Alley was a lovely, somewhat-tranquil bastion of peace and sanity in the middle of it all. I was floored by the amount of HPD fans that approached my table for signatures or prints. I honestly didn't expect there to be so many of them! Many people asked about the impending final issue, the hardcover and most importantly; would there be more afterwards? I was tickled by the super-enthusiastic response from readers. Yay!

I have to thank the ridiculously-generous Declan Shalvey once more for letting me share his table after Jordie had been forced to pull out due to deadline constraints. It was the best possible place to be, as I met a huge number of pros and editors that came up to talk to the ever-popular Dec. It was a networkers dream, as he introduced me to each and every one of them.

I sold most of the A3 sized prints that I had over there with me, but will get more printed up before Thought Bubble in England next month. What a show that promises to be. I'll be attending with my partners in crime Jordie bellaire and Dec Shalvey as usual, and no doubt a few of the other Irish heads will make the trip. I'll also have all of the sold-out early issues of Half Past Danger with me, and I'm sure I'll take on a few commissions too. More on that next month.

Right now, I'm finishing off the extra material for the hardcover, and looking forward to seeing peoples' reactions to the final issue of the first series when it ships. The hardcover promises to be a thing of beauty, and it's the most excited i've been about any part of the process, I think.

Onward!

New York Comic Con 2013

I'll be sharing table K-11 with my good buddy Declan Shalvey (Deadpool, Conan, Thunberbolts etc) all weekend at NYCC next week. I'll have some really nice Half Past Danger Prints with me and would be delighted to sign anything you wanna put in front of me.

I'm taking on a very limited amount of pre-show commissions, probably only 2 or 3. They'll be $100 each for a 9x12 full figure inked drawing of a character of your choosing. See the pic of Elizabeth Huntington-Moss a couple of posts down for a reasonable idea of what to expect. Get in touch through email at stephencmooney@gmail.com if ye fancy it.

Thanks, and see ye there! Can't wait; always a brilliant show.

1940s Pinup Style.

Here's another commission I just finished of Elizabeth by the pool. The buyer requested an old-skool pinup-style shot of Liz in a red swimsuit. No. Problem.

I really could draw this kind of stuff forever. Also, while I have ye; thanks so much to everybody who picked up the fifth issue of the book! The response has once again been overwhelming. I can't get over all of the insanely-positive reviews. Viva comics!

Issue 5 Out Tomorrow!

The fifth issue arrives in stores tomorrow world-wide. I'd normally post a 5-page preview of the issue along with the covers, but this one is a tad spoiler-heavy from the get-go, so I figured instead I'd post the process of the cover from pencils to colours.

Also pictured is the marvelous variant cover by Ireland and IDW's own Nick Roche! Nick is a good buddy of mine, and also a bloody great artist, so I was delighted when he agreed to contribute a cover. Gorgeous colours on that one by Nick's partner in crime on much of his Transformers work, Josh Burcham.

Only one issue left after this one..! I'm currently pencilling page 24 of the final 28 page issue, so very close to finishing. Nerves.

Anyhoo, please do pick up issue 5! Secrets are revealed! Friendships are tested! Nazis are killed!

And the variant cover by Nick Roche:

Original Art

Numerous (numerous!) people have inquired about the availability of the original artwork from the series.
The short answer is: I WILL be selling the artwork once the series has reached it's conclusion, as I'm still a little too attached to the pages at this stage to let them go. But after issue 6 arrives in the shops, all bets are off. Some of the pages have already been earmarked for people who've contacted me looking for them, but there are loads left, priced from €150 to €750(covers, splashes etc).

If there's a particular page you're interested in, just shoot me a mail at stephencmooney@gmail.com and I'll let you know the story with it lickedy-split.

Cheers!

Half Past Danger Issue 4 Preview Pages and Covers

Issue 4 arrives in stores everywhere (and digitally at Comixology, iBooks etc) tomorrow. Here's both covers, including the fantastic variant by the incredibly talented Mr. Nick Runge, plus the first 5 pages of the issue. Colours, as always, by the effervescent Ms. Jordie Bellaire.

Update.

Just a quick State of The Nation to let people know where I'm at. Issue 5 has been put to bed and is ready for the printers. Myself and Jordie had a VERY late one on monday night getting everything pitch-perfect, and all is good to go. Extra credit once again to Ms. Bellaire, who really went the extra mile yet again to incorporate everything I was looking for. Can't overstate how important she is to the book.

Today I'm inking page 4 of issue 6, and am pretty much on schedule. The final issue is another big sucker, with the whole interior of the book being dedicated to the story. So there's a lot of work in this one. But all going to plan, that'll help to make the denouement sing.

Another thank you to everybody who's picked up an issue and given the series a try. It's so gratifying to see the series hitting home with so many readers, and not a little bloody surprising! I can still remember how nervous I was approaching the whole creator-owned arena. The experience has really surpassed any and all expectations/hopes I may have had.

So thank you again, and continue to bear with me! Things are really ramping up.

Stephen

Issue 3 Preview

Issue 3 is arriving in comic book stores worldwide this Wednesday the 17th of July. Please do pick up a copy! Variant cover by the ridiculously talented and suave Mr. Lee Bermejo!

Same format ye've come to expect; 26 pages of story, 4 pages of backup material and zero ads. All for the normal retail price.

I think it's the best issue yet!

Though, I would say that.

Issue 2 Reprint - Solicitation/Previews Code

It's just been announced that Issue 2 of the series is also getting the second print treatment. I'm so, so grateful that the book has found an audience in such a big way; I never dared to imagine that the first issue would go back to the presses, let alone the second.

Thanks so much yet again for making the trip to the stores and parting with your hard-earned for these comics. I truly do appreciate it, and it's giving the series a great chance to flourish and survive.

Here's the PREVIEWS code for the issue 2 reprint:

MAY138413

HALF PAST DANGER #2 (OF 6) 2ND PTG

Anybody who hasn't been able to get their mitts on a copy of the sold out second issue should request it from their local retailer! There's an all-new cover for this new printing, too. Colours by Ruth Redmond, a truly talented protogé of Jordie's.

Following hot on the heels of the fantastic news that issue 1 is getting a reprint, comes its PREVIEWS code: MAY138203

Below is the cover for the reprint; you might recognise it if you're a long-time reader of this blog. One've my favourite images done so far for HPD; I'm delighted it's getting its turn! Colours by the ever-fabulous Jordie Bellaire.

Update

Issue 1 and Issue 2 are now sold out at distributor level, which is just the most fantastic news. I never thought the book would find as many readers as it has, so it's incredibly satisfying to know that there are more potential readers than there are copies! Anybody who would like a copy of either issue 1 or issue 2 should ask their store-owners about getting some re-orders in, and potentially more could be printed if there's enough demand. So have at it!

I gotta say, thank you so much to everybody who's taken a punt on HPD, and hopefully enjoyed it. It means an awful lot. I'm still a little afraid that everybody will suddenly come to their senses and realise, 'wait a sec, this guy's not a real writer!' That said, hopefully I can continue to pull the wool over everybody's eyes until the series has concluded!

Schedule-wise, at the moment I'm drawing page 10 of issue 5, and Jordie has started work on the colours for issue 4, so everything is pretty much on track. Issue 3 (my favourite to date, I think)  has gone to the printers and will be out in good time.

I was writing some stuff for the sequel last night; the plot for which is almost fully formed. I don't know for sure if IDW are up for doing more after this initial series, but I sure am, and will do my best to make it happen.

So that's it for the minute. I was looking through the issues for some artwork to post with this article, but the problem is that everything is so spoilerific at this point that there's not a lot I can show!
Maybe I'll draw up something new specifically for the blog.

For now though; b'bye! And THANKS.

Issue 2 Preview Pages

Issue two is in stores this wednesday, so I figured I'd stick up a little taste of what ye can expect. The colours for this issue (and for the rest of the series), are by the ridiculously talented and fragrant Miss Jordie bellaire. Variant cover by Dynamic Declan Shalvey!

Please do pick up the issue!

Thank You

Just wanted to post and say a massive THANK YOU so much to all of the people that gave the first issue of Half Past Danger a chance, and from what I can tell, seemed to enjoy it. It really makes all of the late nights worthwhile when I hear how much people are digging it. It also makes me even more determined to make sure that the rest of the series is just as good, if not better, than issue one.

I've just begun work on the fifth issue this week, and should be able to stay on track until the book is finished. Please do continue to pick up the issues as they come out, and let me know what ye think!

Thanks so much again! Sincerely.

The Verdict from The Press

The reviews for issue one of the book have been incredibly positive; it's surreal. That said it's overwhelming and heartening to know that there are so many fans out there on the same wavelength as myself, fans that love this type of material with a new twist.

I'm not going to start linking to various reviews here, as that would be a tad self-aggrandising(they're easily found around the net), but I will post a link to one specific review, from the Houston Press. The reporter got onto me today to tell me that Half Past Danger #1 is only the fourth book in two years to receive a 10 out of 10 rating in their paper, and that I should let people know. He blew my tiny mind a little bit.

So here's the link to the article, if you feel like taking a look: Link

The general tone of reviews has been extremely positive, and they really seem to grasp the vibe I'm shooting for with the book. I'm so, so grateful that it's been this well received, and I find it pretty hard to believe, to be honest.

Now I wait for the other shoe to drop...

T-Shirts/Prints

To all the people asking about the availability of HPD shirts and prints; stay tuned. I'm actively working  on making them available online, I just need to make sure all of my deadlines are met first. Won't be long. And thanks so much for all the interest!

Who'd have thought I'd have bloody merchandise some day... strange times! Good times.

Me and the missus sporting some dapper threads.
