Issue 2 Variant Cover by Dec Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire

Here's the beautiful variant cover to issue two, by the disgustingly talented pair of Dec Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, comicbooks' answer to David Addison and Maddie Hayes. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I LOVE this cover. The composition is great (as always with Dec's work), and the elements that comprise it are all fantastically rendered. My favourite bit of the drawing is the teeny Irish bailing out of the plane. Dec actually incorporated various story beats from the issue into the piece, so readers do indeed have both sharks and Deinonychuses (Deinonychi?) to look forward to.

Series-colourist Jordie knocked it out of the park as usual, something she does about eleven times a day at this point. My main colour direction to her for this book was 'that gorgeous golden-hued matinee look you do' or some words to that effect, and she continues to deliver exactly that.

At this point, I really should point out just how helpful Dec and Jordie have been in getting this whole project off the ground. Dec, along with the other Micks, is my constant sounding board as to what is and isn't working with the book as I go along, and always makes himself available to me to give his feedback. The other Micks are the same, very willing to take a look at things by committee. This kind of group interaction is absolutely invaluable in the vacuum of working in comics, as the guys and Jordie are often picking up on teeny things I may have missed the mark on here or there. Chris Ryall is my Editor-In-Cheif on this project, but truth be told the Micks, especially Dec and Nick Roche, are doing a lot of the nuts and bolts editing. Those guys do so love to pick my stuff apart... the bastards.
